Frequently Asked Questions
I just got a new retriever puppy can I get started with the club?
Absolutely, the sooner the better. It's never to early to get started with a retriever puppy
AKC and UKC what are they?
AKC (American Kennel Club) and UKC (United Kennel Club) are dog registries that keep track of various dogs and
breeds. The Hunting Retriever Club is run under the UKC so if your dog is already registered with AKC you will have
to also register with the UKC.
HRC Hunts, AKC Hunt Tests, and Field Trials what are the differences?
Both HRC Hunts and AKC Hunt Tests are designed to test the ability of a retriever against a set of standards. Dog and
handler are work as a team to meet the standards of the judges designed test.
There are subtle to prominent difference between HRC and AKC rules depending upon the level of Hunt Test you are
running. At the end of the day dog and handler either passed the standard or did not meet the standard. Field Trials
are competitive. Dog and handler are competing against other dogs on the same test by earning points for a variety of
abilities. In these events there are places and dogs receive ribbons and awards based on performance.
